Sometimes the widespread belief of calling someone in music an artist is because they appear on a screen or their song plays on the radio and not for the fact that they are a creative being who produces or is the conduit of an artistic representation. And having established that the term is something deeper, then, it is time to introduce you to the release of the first album by a young Canadian artist by the name of Lillian Blue Makin, called Primary Language.
The album is a journey through stories of a young 20-year-old singer-songwriter who defies conventions and expectations, believing absolutely in what she does and that comes from her love for hip hop and country folk. So we find on the one hand, beats and rhymes and on the other hand, soft and melancholic sounds. For the artist, it is important to mention that although she faces the challenge with confidence, but also with an innocence beleiving in herself and her songs as she visualized at the time of writing them. Beginning as a young kid writing her rap songs, by musical heritage she discovered country and folk and that build the elements for her her personal music style. Primary Language has 11 stories so diverse, that they truly showcase one of the most promising artists of recent times. It would not be strange that in a few more years she is breaking big in stages of festivals all around the world.
Since 2020, she started releasing singles, which have reached more than 1 million streams on digital platforms. Now comes her long awaited debut, in which Jimmy Bowskill (Blue Rodeo), Felix Fox (pianist of BADBADNOTGOOD) and Kieran Cousins collaborated in the production, in addition to the artist as the co-producer. The album will be officially launched tomorrow October 14th at The Drake Underground with special guests Edisunn and Blunt Chunks.
In conclusion, with influences such as Dolly Parton and Lauryn Hill, she has created a unique album where genres, ideas and emotions are merged by an artist who as she says, is still very young, but mature enough to make her decisions and with a world ahead to discover and grow in it without barriers or anything to limit it. This album is a genuine gift from a true artist.
