MEET: LILLlAN BLUE MAKIN

Friday Night Border Crossing

With a very strong will, Lillian Blue Makin has been causing waves on the music scene, having an innate talent for storytelling and lyricism. The 20-year-old singer and composer is releasing the first single of the year called Nicotine, song that will be featured on the debut album, Primary Language, coming real soon during spring.

Nicotine is a (mostly) acoustic song that features the trademark soulful voice that has a very unique feeling as the notes fly in on the song. The single was co-produced and co-written by Kieran Cousins and Lillian Blue Makin and has a backstory about the yearning of a lost love, of putting oneself in situations in which they could simply run into the person they are missing. Talking about the song: "...The song was inspired by a coworker of mine who visited the city where her Ex lives and couldn't help but go by his restaurant and walk past his house, reminiscing and hoping to bump into him. The nicotine and chain-smoking aspect of the story came to be from how I imagined the scenario. She would often tell me these stories of her lost love on smoke breaks and I couldn’t help but think that chain-smoking would be the perfect cover for standing in one place stretching out the minutes just in case the ex comes out on that last cigarette...”.

On the past. Lillian mostly showcased a love for hip hop, but in this case, it was the time to do a folk song that enhances a storytelling form that defies the singer to "...tap into different parts of songwriting...". With that, what we can expect is that this single and album, becomes a breakthrough moment for this talented young artist from Toronto.
