Pop music has always been seen with a different eye than other musical styles, maybe because rock music has always found a way to grow creatively and move many deep things, while pop produces other sensations, more to excite and evoke. However, every now and then someone comes along who seeks to change the rules, creating music that defies ears and an image that defies standards, this is where someone like Stromer Hills emerges. And indeed, the Canadian born artist (Calgary, Alberta to be exact), seeks to be considered as an authentic being in a world where many seek to appear what they are not or what they will never be. Now with the single If You Like The Way I Walk, he reminded me of those times when I turned on the radio and TV and pop wasn't just lab vocals, but young artists with hunger, strength and attitude.
He truly has been having a rocket ship on his back, on Soundcloud his music is one of the most listened to. He has managed to have a loyal audience that vibrates with every tone and movement, achieving a unique connection, the same way he became passionate about music with his dad when they played to identify the songs on the radio. At a young age, he started playing in bands and one day from scratch he began to create songs, there he discovered that his greatest weapon was his voice.
From there he started to thrive in the digital space with his songs, one success after another in the World, Canadian and USA Soundcloud charts being a constant protagonist in the top places. After the release of Control, came what we could say, a bad creative crisis, so he found a new way to record music, locking himself in a closet, a process he describes as being in a room with God or a supreme being and that being taking control, and with that came the inspiration for If You Like The Way I Walk.
With the divine spark making him feel focused and on a mission, he made the song in one fell swoop and recorded it. It was like searching for that perfect song, that awaited breakthrough hit. The song shows above all, a lot of confidence on his voice, it just sounds like that. It's a song where at the airport you see someone who impresses you and it's that moment where you have all the swagger in the world and know that you are the center of attention, try and grab that persons attention . His voice is the common thread in a moving song, with a simple rhythm, danceable and cheerful, that has given him a way to create happy music and that has opened the doors for himself and see that he has no limits, that he can trust in who he is and in his talent .... and that he is just starting.
